Introduction to System Controllers and Monitors

Many Fuel Polishing and Tank Cleaning Systems available for purchase on this website are equipped with a Controller that, to some extent, provides you with control over the operations of the Fuel Polishing Procedure.  Generally, all systems work the same.  Each system has a pump to circulate the fuel, drawing the fuel from the tank, feeds the fuel through one or more filters, passes the fuel through the Fuel Conditioner, and then returns the fuel to the tank.

At the basic level, the Controller is Programmable allowing for periodic scheduled treatments of the fuel to occur without requiring a person to initiate the Fuel Polishing.  Safeguards are built into the Controller to automatically shut down should something happen that is not good, such as a leak develops or a filter requires changing.  Alerts of some form (alarms sound and/or lights flash) are provided to an operator who may then investigate and do what is necessary for the process of Polishing the Fuel to continue.  Some Controllers have advanced control features to perform tasks on their own when necessary, such as drawing water from the primary filter and depositing it into a container, without the need for operator intervention.

Advanced Automation Controllers can handle up to four tanks and communicate alerts via text messaging, use a Touch Screen for ease of programming and can be integrated in building control centers.

Each Fuel Polishing and Tank Cleaning System that is included in the FPS Compact Series or the STS 6000 or 7000 Series, and all MTC HC Series Mobile Systems include a Controller that adds greatly to the value and ease-of-use of our Fuel Polishing Systems.

System Prices quote for Systems include the price of the Standard Model Controller appropriate for that system.  However, incorporating optional functionality, such as the Automatic Water Drain System, Multiple Tank capability, Vacuum/Pressure Transducers, Flow Transmitter, Multi-Point Flow Path and other optional equipment may require an upgrade in Controller to provide optimal utility.

System Monitor

Programmable Digital Timer

Programmable Digital
System Monitor

The Programmable Digital Timer and System Monitor provides control of the following FPS Compact Systems, all of which are available with 12 Volt DC or 24 Volt DC power:

  • FPS-DX-S – Compact Fuel Polishing System – 80 GPH
  • FPS-Compact – Compact Fuel Polishing System – 80 GPH
  • FPS-FX – Compact Fuel Polishing System – 150 GPH

This Programmable Digital Timer has an LCD screen which provides time readout.  The system provides any of 15 combinations of days, start time and desired stop time and can be repeated up to eight cycles per month.

The Programmable Digital Timer features the following:

  • Control panel in electrical sub-enclosure
  • Breaker (Power On/Off switch)
  • Power: 12 volt DC / 10 Amp or 24 volt DC / 5 Amp
  • Battery backup to retain program memory during power outages
  • System power indicator
  • Alarm indicator light(s)
  • High vacuum alarm indicator and system shutdown (vacuum sensor)
  • Water Sensor Alarm
  • Leak Detector (float switch)
  • Alarm Reset – push button

The FPS System Monitor gives you the flexibility to have a system that runs for a fixed time period and then automatically shuts off.

The FPS System Monitor utilizes the sensors located on the bowl of the Separ Fuel Filter / Water Separator to determine when water that has been captured in the bowl has reached a volume to complete the electric circuit across the sensors.  When detection is positive, the system shuts down the operation of the Monitor and provides an audible alarm indicating the water in the filter bowl requires removal.

The FPS System Monitor also will automatically shut down and provide an audible alarm when high vacuum or high pressure is sensed in the system, possibly indicating a clogged primary filter or that a secondary filter element requires attention and is in need of changing. The FPS System Monitor also has a sensor that would automatically shut off the pump and provide an audible alarm if fuel or other fluid accumulates in the spill tray, the bottom portion of the mounting structure, activating the float switch.

The FPS System Monitor is a 12 Volt (24 Volt is available as an option) unit that can be operated with battery power or with the optional power converter, powered by 110V 60Hz or 230V 50Hz power.

Replacement FPS System Monitors are available, but not sold separately.  Contact us for information.
